Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are Open 24 hours. I was genuinely excited to try this place based on a recommendation. But when I went to order and saw a “Philly” cheesesteak, I should have stopped because anyone knows that if it’s called a “Philly” cheesesteak, it’s not going to taste like one. And this did not live up to the hype. Cheese wiz - despite what others say - is a traditional offering, it’s where the “wiz wit” or “wiz witout” expression comes from. When done right, it’s delicious. (Don’t get me wrong, cooper sharp is exceptional and my standard choice) But, I chose cheese wiz this time. What a disappointment to open the sandwich and see the cheese slathered on top and not mixed in with the meat. Strike one. I took the meat out of the bread to mix and remake the sandwich, which is when I noticed the ratio of meat to bread was unsatisfactory. Strike two. As you can see in the pictures, the amount of meat in the entire roll could easily fill 1/2 of the roll. The meat was dry, strike three. Overall, the sandwich was forgettable. I grew up in Philly burbs so I’m used to jim’s, dalessandros, and steve’s prince of steaks, among other local shops. The closest I’ve found to a genuine cheesesteak in Reading is Spenny’s, which ma

My order was place on slice app and it wasn't made with love. It was real thin, soggy and had too much chesse on it. The bottom looked like it came out of a box. It didn't look like it sat in a pizza oven. I contacted slice app about it and I was told that they wanted to see the order but I dont have a car to take it. I requested for them to send a driver out to get it and they responded by saying they dont have any drivers available and they only way then can do anything is to see the order. I guess I have to take a L but thats okay. I've order plenty of times before and never had a problem like this. Maybe its because I order at 12:09 am. I also wondered why my order came fast. We'll look at the pictures maybe I'm wrong but the bottom of the pizza had marks like it sat on something while it cooked. It looked like a pizza from a papa johns or dominosit looked like it came from a place like that I think the pizza is great until this. Since the people last night didn't want to make it right its okay. Consistency it key for a good place to continue to be good. Chef David you crew last night didn't show me any love.

I absolutely love their chicken cheese steaks! The roll is so soft and just perfect! The fries are seasoned just right! I love the interaction with the people that work here. Very nice.

In a city that never sleeps, the glowing "Open 24/7" sign is the only Bat-Signal a hungry vigilante needs to see. Reconnaissance mission occurred at the corner of 4th and Penn in West Reading. Upon breaching the perimeter, I encountered the mastermind himself, Chef David. Dressed in full tactical whites, a traditional chef's uniform. Looking suave. On brand and much like the iconic Chef Boyardee! He operates this 24/7 stronghold with impressive efficiency. My investigation uncovered an intriguing piece of intel. David also owns a limousine business. It’s a strategic parallel I can appreciate. Every billionaire needs a discreet way to navigate the city when the Batmobile is in the shop! The primary objective was the cheesesteak, and the results were overwhelmingly Whizzy! The roll was struggling to contain a payload of Whiz so substantial it felt like a trap set by the Penguin in the middle of a dairy factory. While I usually favor a "more is more" approach to justice, this was a Category 5 Cheese Event. It was delicious, but had to handle with extreme caution and bat-napkins, only finishing half before asking David for a custom sticker to reseal the goodies for later. Mynext order

If you are looking for the best cheesesteaks in the area, look no further than Chef David’s on Penn Avenue. I’ve tried a lot of the menu, and honestly, everything so far has been very good, but there are a few standouts you have to try. First, their wings are excellent. A huge plus for wing lovers: you can actually order all flats, which is becoming increasingly rare! I also have a custom recipe I highly recommend asking for—I call it the "Three M Steak." It’s a steak sandwich loaded with: Mushrooms Mozzarella Marinara It’s a flavor powerhouse that hits the spot every time. One of the biggest bonuses of this place is that they are open 24 hours a day. In a world of "COVID baby" restaurants where kitchens close at 8:00 or 9:00 PM if you're lucky, Chef David’s is a total lifesaver for night owls and late-shift workers. Plus, they serve breakfast daily from 4:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Whether it's the middle of the night or the crack of dawn, this is the go-to spot in West Reading.
